Staffing

Project Afterschool is committed to providing a professional service of the highest quality. In appointing staff members we therefore look for evidence of excellent suitability, for high levels of training and experience. As new staff members are appointed more information will be published below. Any adult working at Project Afterschool will be Garda vetted and will adhere to recommendations regarding up to date first aid and child protection certificates.

Staff will be encouraged to engage in ongoing professional development opportunities. Currently, Lorraine is being trained as a LINC (Leadership in Inclusion) Co-ordinator for preschool on an awardwinning blended learning course at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. Alison and Mary-Ellen are both working towards completing their Level 8 B.A. Degree in Galway in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Stephanie is enroled in the Hanen Programme and Johanna is qualifying as a Forest Schoool Leader by the end of 2019.

The new Afterschool Regulation requires a Adult to Child ratio of 1:12. We are normally well within this ratio averaging around a ratio of 1:8.

Project Afterschool will also be open to volunteer helpers. So if you have a skill or passion which you are willing to share or if you are free to help out in any way we would love to hear from you!

Lorraine Donnellan
Preschool and Afterschool Pedagogue ("Teacher")

We are delighted to have Lorraine on our team. She will be working 5 afternoons per week and is also involved in the Junior Afterschool from 13:20 until 14:20. Lorraine completed her BA degree in Early Childhood Care and Education in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick in May of this year and holds a variety of supporting qualifications such as paediatric first aid, emergency first responder, a social inclusion course, basic Irish sign language, yoga for children and nutrition and healthy eating for children.

With her experiences in music, drama and sports coaching, Lorraine has a particularly varied skillset which has her well positioned to offer any number of afterschool activities such as hurling training, choir or singing activities and story acting/story making.

A deep love for nature is clearly present in the way Lorraine speaks and her vivid childhood memories of having fun outdoors will strongly influence the way in which she plans and facilitates activities for our afterschoolers.

Alison Burke
Afterschool Pedagogue ("Teacher")

Alison has seven years experience in the childcare sector and is currently completing a level eight degree with NUI Galway. We've been enjoying her ideas for seasonal crafts, her excellent skill at striking up a conversation with the older afterschoolers and her experienced way of working with the younger children. Alison is very good at inventing or bringing in games. Alison is going on maternity leave in March 2019 and we wish her all the best for the time ahead.

Mary-Ellen O'Sullivan
Afterschool Pedagogue ("Teacher")

Mary-Ellen joined the tam in Sept 2018. Her great energy and positivity are very contageous and her love for the outdoors means that very little can stop her from providing great learning and play for the children on the school grounds or in Mungret Park. Get your wellies and rain pants on everyone, you're in for some really good fun!

Grainne Fogarty
Afterschool Pedagogue ("Teacher")
Johanna Davis
Founder / Manager

Johanna has always loved children but developed a passion for the field of education during her BA and Masters studies in Education between 2004 and 2010 at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. She believes that helping children to grow and learn is one of the very important and honourable occupations in today's society. She takes pride in making a positive contribution, not only to the day, the year and the overall childhood experience of every on of our afterschoolers, but also to the profession of the Early Childhood Sector as a whole.

Professional experiences include lecturing and mentoring degree students in subjects such as creativity, pedagogy and research since 2012 and working with children in a range of settings, from creativity classes and artistic birthday parties to child minding and 'round-the-clock' summer camps.

Currently her greatest interest for further studies lies in the area of wilderness pedagogy and forest schooling.

Grainne has a B.A. Degree in ECCE from Mary Immaculate College and has been bringing much joy to the enthusiastic afterschoolers in the form of baking and cooking activities on Thursdays.
