Our Philosophy
Ethos
Project Afterschool subscribes to the Educate Together Ethos which is child-centered, inclusive and democratic. This means that everybody is made to feel welcome in a community where children can make choices based on their own interest as well as the needs of the group as a whole. They learn together to live together. We believe that there is no better place to develop this skill of balancing freedom with responsibility than in the deeply rewarding and richly educational natural environment. This is why we aspire to the principles of forest schooling. Read more...
Vision
We envisage a childhood experience in Project Afterschool at LETS, which is happy and fulfilled.
Participants and carers will form meaningful relationships in a caring and homelike environment where every child feels affirmed in their strengths and has a valuable contribution to make to the
community. We see children who have the opportunity to flourish and form friendships as they engage in freely chosen projects or in the organised group activities.
Project Afterschool at LETS wishes to offer both relaxation and stimulation in order to strike a healthy balance for the physical
wellbeing, intellectual capacities and emotional needs of the children.
We support children in finding their own voice while developing empathy for the views of others, so that each child who attends feels supported and cherished as a person.
Mission
We aim to provide afterschool and preschool care of the highest quality which is based on sound pedagogical principles and planning and carried out by caring, trained professionals.
Project Afterschool at LETS strives to fulfil the needs of every child who attends the service as well as the needs of their family and of the LETS School Community as a whole.

Like our Afterschool, which opended in September 2017, the preschool is located within
Limerick East Educate Together National School in Mungret. We make extensive use of the beautiful school grounds as well as Mungret Park to offer an active, creative and playful experience to children and foster their connection with the natural environment. The Preschool is available for children who qualify for the free preschool years and it runs from 9:00 to 12:00 on normal school days. We are delighted with the great progress and learning observed in our first group of Preschoolers and look forward to welcoming a new group of children in September.
